Tokayev says the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan should be resolved peacefully

The conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan should be resolved only peacefully and by political and diplomatic means, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said on Friday during an extraordinary session of the CSTO Collective Security Council.


"During the session, the results of the CSTO mission sent to Armenia on September 15, 2022, were discussed. Addressing the session, the Kazakh president said that the conflict should be resolved exclusively through peaceful means and political and diplomatic means," the press service of the Kazakhstan leader said in a statement.


Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and CSTO Secretary-General Stanislav Zas participated in the summit, which was organized by video conference.


Press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said earlier that the meeting was held ahead of the trilateral summit of the Russian president with the prime minister of Armenia and the leader of Azerbaijan. Pashinyan said such talks are scheduled for October 31 in Sochi.


An extraordinary meeting of the CSTO Collective Security Council was initiated by Armenia to discuss the consequences of military action with Azerbaijan on September 13-14.
