During his meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev underscored the pivotal and irreplaceable role of the United Nations (UN). This was reported by the press service of Kazakhstan's leader.
"The president of Kazakhstan expressed deep appreciation for Antonio Guterres' leadership as UN Secretary-General, reiterating his commitment to supporting Guterres' endeavors to foster global peace, stability, and security. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized the United Nations' paramount role in addressing today's most pressing challenges and underscored its indispensability," the statement read. Kazakhstan's leader also conveyed his perspective on enhancing the UN's work during the meeting.
In response, the UN secretary-general acknowledged the ongoing advancement of their bilateral partnership. "Kazakhstan and the UN maintain a collaborative effort in bolstering peace and security, advancing sustainable development goals, and upholding human rights. Kazakhstan holds a special status for us as a cherished partner, serving as a cornerstone of multilateralism and a global advocate and guardian of peace," Guterres remarked.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the key areas of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the UN, as well as the urgent challenges of our time.
