On May 9, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev plans to take part in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Eternal Flame in the country's capital. The president's press secretary, Ruslan Zheldibay, announced this on Tuesday.

"There have been questions from members of the media about the president's participation in Victory Day events. This year, on May 9, the head of state Kassym-Jomart Tokayev plans to participate in the traditional ceremony of laying flowers at the Eternal Flame at the Otan Qorgaushylar Monument monument ("Defenders of the Fatherland") in the capital," he said.

According to him, Tokayev will also take part in the celebration of Defender of the Fatherland Day and Victory Day on May 6.

"On the instructions of the head of state this year, all regions are making lump sum payments to war veterans in the amount of at least 1 million tenge ($2,200). The rear workers and citizens equated to them will also receive material support," said the spokesman.

In addition, he reported that personal meetings with participants of the war and members of their families will be held on May 8-9 at the level of heads of regional administrations, and charitable actions will be held all over the country. "The state will continue to provide all necessary assistance to our veterans on a systematic basis," Zheldibay noted.

Earlier, the republic's defense ministry said that this year's military parade dedicated to Defender of the Fatherland Day, which is celebrated on May 7, and Victory Day, is not planned due to cost savings. However, about 50 military-patriotic events are planned, as well as events to honor veterans of the Great Patriotic War and the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan.
