Trilateral working group on Karabakh to hold its first session until January 30

The first session of the trilateral working group on Nagorno-Karabakh will be held until January 30. The respective agreement is reflected in a statement by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia and the President of the Russian Federation, published on the website of the Kremlin on Monday.

 

"The working group will hold its first meeting before January 30, 2021, according to the results of which a list of the main directions of work <...> will be formed," the trilateral document says.

 

It is specified that railway and automobile communication are identified as priorities. In addition, the working group will also determine other areas as agreed by all three parties. The new document says that the parties decided to support the proposal of Russian President Vladimir Putin to create a trilateral working group, co-chaired by the Deputy Prime Ministers of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia, in order to implement paragraph 9 of the joint statement of November 9, 2020, to unblock all economic and transport links in the region.

 

 

Schedule of transport development activities

 

The working group on Karabakh will submit to the leaders of the three countries by March 1 a schedule for the implementation of transport development measures in the region, the statement said.

 

"By March 1, 2021, the working group will submit for approval at the highest level by the parties the list and the schedule of implementation of measures providing for restoration and construction of new objects of transport infrastructure necessary for the organization, performance and safety of international transportations carried out through the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia, as well as those carried out by the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia, which requires crossing the territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan".

 

The leaders of the three countries also gave other instructions to the co-chairs of the working group. "In order to implement the main directions of the activity, the working group co-chairs will approve the composition of the expert subgroups on these directions from among the officials of the competent authorities and organizations of the sides. The expert subgroups within a month after the meeting of the working group will submit a list of projects with a justification of the necessary resources and measures for their implementation and approval at the highest level by the parties", the document says.
