The Independent High Authority for Elections (acting as Tunisia's central electoral commission) will convene on Friday to approve the final results of the October 6 presidential election. According to its statement, no appeals contesting the preliminary results were filed within the allotted timeframe.
"Since the deadline for challenging the preliminary results of the 2024 presidential election has passed, and no appeals have been submitted, the Independent High Authority for Elections will meet on October 11, 2024, to certify the final results of the presidential election," the commission stated.
On Thursday, official commission spokesperson Mohamed Talili Mansri told Mosaique FM that recent amendments to the electoral law, made on September 28, allow for a three-day window to submit appeals against the preliminary results. He also noted that once the final results are approved, the parliament will set a date for the inauguration of the elected president.
The presidential election took place on October 6 in Tunisia. According to preliminary results from the electoral commission, incumbent president Kais Saied secured a decisive victory with 90.69% of the vote. In second place was Ayachi Zammel, from the left-wing party "Azimun," who received 7.35%, despite being sentenced to 12 years in prison. Zouhair Maghzaoui of the social-democratic party "Hreke esh-She'b" came in third with 1.97% of the vote. Voter turnout across the country and abroad reached 28.8%.
