During the "Russia - Africa" economic forum, Tunisian Foreign Minister Nabil Ammar accepted an invitation to the international forum "Russia - Islamic World. KazanForum" in 2024. The meeting with Head of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov took place within the framework of the event. Nabil Ammar expressed his interest in strengthening ties and establishing new business contacts with Russia. He proposed enhancing the interaction of business missions.
In response, Rustam Minnikhanov suggested creating working groups in various sectors to facilitate close cooperation between Tatarstan and Tunisia. These working groups would focus on industries of mutual interest. Minnikhanov emphasized Tatarstan's interest in expanding exports to Tunisia, including petrochemical and machine-building products, ships, car tires, compressors, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and agricultural goods. He also expressed interest in counter deliveries from Tunisia, such as foodstuffs, fruits, vegetables, seafood, and light industry goods.
Trade between Tatarstan and Tunisia has been on the rise, with the turnover reaching $12.6 million in 2022 and surpassing $20 million in the first quarter of 2023. The potential for further collaboration and economic cooperation between the two regions remains promising.
