Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi died aged 92. This was reported on the page of his administration on Facebook.
"The President of the Republic Beji Caid Essebsi died this morning at the Tunis military hospital," says the statement. He was taken to the hospital the night before.
Funeral plans will be announced soon.
Tunisia is a member of the League of Arab States, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the African Union.
