Turkey and Qatar will carry out a project to build about 1 million homes for returning Syrian refugees in northern Syria. The announcement was made Wednesday by incumbent Turkish President and candidate for the republic's head of state Recep Tayyip Erdogan at an election rally in Ankara.
"We have begun housing about 500,000 refugees in briquette houses in northern Syria. Together with Qatar, a project to build about 1 million homes for returning Syrian refugees is underway," Erdogan said.
According to the official data, there are about 3.5 million refugees from Syria in Turkey. The opposition claims that the number of refugees reaches 10 million, the single presidential candidate of the opposition alliance Kemal Kilicdaroglu says that if he wins the second round of the presidential elections on May 28 he will send all refugees back home.
