Russia and Turkey have reached agreement on most issues related to the Syrian Idlib, the head of the Defense Ministry of the Republic of Hulusi Akar announced.

"Negotiations with the Russian delegation are still in progress, and we managed to agree on most of the issues. The presence of our military in Idlib continues, there is no question of their withdrawal", he said, in particular.

The situation in Idlib was discussed on March 5 in Moscow at a meeting of Russian and Turkish Presidents Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Following the meeting, the parties adopted a joint document, suggesting a ceasefire. In addition, the parties agreed to jointly patrol the M4 highway, which is now under the control of militants.

The situation in Idlib escalated after militants attacked positions of the Syrian government troops on February 27. The SAR army returned fire. The Turkish military, which, as stated in the Russian Defense Ministry, "should not have been there", was also shelled.

As a result, 36 Turkish army soldiers were killed and more than 30 people were injured.
