Turkey refused airspace clearance for Israeli President Isaac Herzog’s flight to Baku, where he was scheduled to attend the UN Climate Conference COP-29. The Turkish authorities confirmed this decision to Sabah, citing official sources.
“The primary reason for President Herzog's absence from the UN Climate Conference is Turkey's refusal to grant airspace clearance for his flight,” the newspaper reported.
Azerbaijani news outlet Caliber also reported the development, citing a senior source within Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry.
In a statement, Israel’s presidential office explained that Herzog’s trip had been canceled due to “security concerns.”
In late October, Herzog had announced his intention to represent Israel at COP-29 and visit Baku during the conference’s second week. COP-29 is taking place in Baku from November 11 to 22.
