Turkey denies reports of meeting between Erdogan and Assad at SCO summit

23 August 2022

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu denied on Tuesday allegations of an impending meeting between Turkish and Syrian leaders Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Bashar al-Assad at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.

"Reports that such a meeting will take place at the SCO summit are not true. Al-Assad has not been invited there," the minister said in an interview with Haber Global TV.

Earlier, the Iranian news agency Tasnim, citing its sources, reported that the leaders of Turkey, Syria and Iran may meet on the margins of the SCO summit in Uzbekistan.
