Turkey intends to launch gas hub project within a year

13 March 2023

The gas hub project in Turkey will be implemented within a year, currently the legal process is underway, a source in the republic's Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources told TASS on Monday.

"Yes, indeed, according to our plans, the launch of the gas center should take place within a year. The legal component of the project is being settled now. It is difficult to say exactly when they will be fully completed," said the interlocutor of the agency.

He also said that the date of the conference on the gas hub has not been set yet.

In October 2022, at the forum "Russian Energy Week" Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested the idea of creating a hub on the Turkish territory, where the lost volume of transit through the Nord Stream could be redirected. He explained that he was talking about the possibility of building another pipeline system and creating a hub in Turkey through which gas would be delivered to third countries, first of all European countries, if they showed interest in it. Ankara has responded positively to the initiative and has stated that it is ready with much of the infrastructure for the creation of a hub and gas trading center in Istanbul.
