The Turkish Armed Forces neutralized more than 20 members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), a terrorist organization recognized in the republic, in northern Syria, the Turkish defense ministry reported  on Wednesday.

"Twenty-four PKK terrorists who attacked our military in areas of Olive Branch operations in northern Syria have been neutralized," the Turkish ministry of national defense said in a released statement.

Meanwhile, Ankara launched a new military operation against the PKK in Iraq on April 18, during which more than 60 members of the organization were neutralized.

Turkey has conducted three military operations in northern Syria since 2017: "Euphrates Shield", "Olive Branch" and "Peace Spring". As a result, a security buffer zone was created between the cities of Azaz and Jarabulus north of Aleppo, Afrin was occupied, and the border areas east of the Euphrates River were taken under control. Damascus considers Turkey's armed presence as an illegal occupation.
