Turkey - Russia: President Erdogan ordered to accelerate the construction of Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan issued a decree that obliges government agencies to accelerate the process of construction of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant. 

 

The decree of the president is published in the official newspaper "Resmi Gazete" and is considered to have entered into force.

 

“The successful construction of a nuclear power plant in our country in order to meet the growing demand for electricity and reduce dependence on imported energy resources is of great importance. In this regard, the relevant organizations and departments involved in the implementation of this project in coordination with the Ministry of Energy should provide maximum support to the relevant processes for the effective use of nuclear technology for peaceful purposes without delay".

 

The cost of a nuclear power plant project is nearly $20 billion. Russia is engaged in the construction of a nuclear power plant and will also manage it.
