If necessary, Turkey is capable of buying and transporting oil from Russia without the need for Western financing or insurance, Turkish Treasury and Finance Minister Noureddin Nebati said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal.
"We must take the necessary steps to meet our needs and do whatever is necessary to protect our country's interests. Turkey can buy and transport Russian oil without Western financing or insurance if necessary. In the case of any sanctions, Turkey has every opportunity to develop tools to adapt to the new situation without violating any of the penalties," Cumhuriyet newspaper cited excerpts of the interview on Friday.
Nebati noted that at the moment "the ceiling price of Russian oil has not yet been put into effect."
In addition, the head of the republic's ministry of finance commented on the Turkish government's plans to implement economic reforms in the country. "We expected it to be a little painful. But it was the war [in Ukraine] that increased the intensity of the pain," Nebati added.
