Turkey says peace in Ukraine difficult but not impossible

22 March 2022

Achieving peace in Ukraine is a difficult but doable task, and Turkey is working hard to achieve it, Turkish presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said on Tuesday.

According to him, the confrontation in Ukraine has brought "enough death, destruction and suffering." "We are making every effort to stop this war. Our initiatives will continue. Achieving peace is difficult, but not impossible," Tayyip Erdogan's spokesman wrote on his Twitter page.

He stressed that a "new cold war" cannot be allowed. "The consequences will be terrible for everyone," Kalin added.

The armed conflict in eastern Ukraine has been ongoing since 2014. The situation at the line of contact in the Donbass escalated on February 17. Donetsk and Lugansk reported the most intense shelling by Ukraine in recent months.
