Turkey says Sputnik V production launch won't take long

03 September 2021

The process of launching production of the Russian coronavirus vaccine Sputnik V in Turkey will not take too long, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca told reporters at a press conference in Ankara on Thursday.

"So far, the results of tests [of the Russian vaccine] have not shown anything negative. We continue to work on its production. Our work with a local company has reached a certain result, but it is not yet complete. I don't think this process will last too long," he stressed.

On April 28, Koca said that the republic had signed a contract to supply the Sputnik V vaccine. On May 12, Russian President Vladimir Putin in a telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Tayyip Erdogan confirmed the readiness of the Russian side to supply the drug to Turkey. On June 14, the first batch of Sputnik V arrived in the republic.
