Turkey to receive 10 million doses of Russian Sputnik Light vaccine

The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and Turkish pharmaceutical company Turk Ilac ve Serum Sanayi have signed a contract to supply 10 million doses of the Russian  Sputnik Light vaccine to Turkey, the Turkish company told TASS correspondent on Thursday.


"The Russian Direct Investment Fund has chosen Turk Ilac ve Serum Sanayi as an authorized partner for the supply and distribution of the Sputnik Light vaccine in Turkey. The concluded contract provides for the first stage of supply and sale of 10 million doses of vaccine",  said the interlocutor of the agency.


Currently, the Sputnik Light vaccine is not registered for use in Turkey. TASS has no official comment from the Turkish Ministry of Health on the subject so far.


On April 28, 2021, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca announced that the republic had signed a contract to supply the Sputnik V vaccine. On June 14 of the same year, the first batch of Sputnik V arrived in the republic.


On January 14 last year, Turkey began mass vaccination of the population using the Chinese vaccine CoronaVac produced by Sinovac Biotech, vaccines from Pfizer and BioNTech, as well as Turkovac's own production.


According to the Turkish Ministry of Health, more than 144 million people have been vaccinated against coronavirus in the country so far, with 57 million people receiving the first component of the vaccine.
