The Turkish Foreign Ministry has issued a call to the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), to intervene and take decisive action in response to Israel's recent aggressive actions in Rafah, a city in the southern Gaza Strip.
The statement, published on the agency's website, expresses grave concern over the escalating Israeli attacks on Rafah, following earlier acts of destruction and massacre in the Gaza Strip. It characterizes these operations as part of a broader strategy to forcibly remove Gazans from their homeland. The ministry warns that persistent attacks will intensify the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and undermine peacekeeping efforts aimed at achieving a sustained ceasefire in the region.
The ministry's appeal comes amidst a series of events. On February 7, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that the military had been given orders to prepare for combat along the Gaza Strip's border with Egypt. Two days later, he directed the army to develop a plan for evacuating civilians and eliminating the remaining four Hamas battalions in Rafah. On the evening of February 12, Arab media reported that the Israeli Armed Forces initiated extensive airstrikes on Rafah. According to the latest figures from the Al Mayadeen TV channel, the bombardment killed at least 100 Palestinians and injured over 230 others.
