On Tuesday, Turkish Airlines carried nearly 12,000 volunteers from different cities of Turkey, willing to participate in the elimination of the consequences of the earthquake in the southeast of the country, CEO Bilal Eksi said.
"As of 07:00 Tuesday, we have transported 11,780 volunteers to the earthquake zone in the airports of Adana, Gaziantep, Adıyaman and Sanliurfa on 80 flights," he wrote on Twitter.
Meanwhile, Turkish media reported that in recent hours many volunteers have crowded into the airport in Istanbul, but not all are sent to the disaster zone. As explained in AFAD (the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency) the preference is given to people with relevant experience and good physical training.
As the TASS correspondent verified, there was no crowding of volunteers at Ankara's Esenboga Airport in the capital city. According to an airport spokesperson, planes continue to operate in the regions affected by the earthquake.
