04 June 2020

Cooperation between Moscow and Ankara, which has been developing in all areas in recent years, serves international peace and stability, Turkish Ambassador to Russia Mehmet Samsar told RIA Novosti.

"Thanks to the close friendship and strong will shown by the Turkish President (Tayyip) Erdogan and the President of the Russian Federation (Vladimir) Putin over the past years, our relations have developed in all areas, and it has also become possible to implement strategically important long-term projects. Our cooperation, in other words, the cooperation of two large countries of the Eurasian region on regional issues serves international peace and stability," Samsar stressed.

He noted that in 2019, the bilateral trade turnover amounted to 27 billion dollars. According to him, this became possible thanks to the implementation of the TurkStream project.

Samsar added that work is actively underway on the construction of another important bilateral project - the first Turkish "Akkuyu" nuclear power plant, the first reactor of which is planned to be launched in 2023.
