Turkish Ambassador to Russia assessed the likelihood of a new operation in Syria

29 October 2019

There is no need to launch a new military operation in Syria's northeast, Turkish Ambassador to Russia Mehmet Samsar said to RIA Novosti.

He recalled that the military operation was completely stopped after the agreement between Russia and Turkey on joint patrolling of the border territory was reached.

Earlier, following six-hour talks, the presidents of Russia and Turkey Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan signed a Memorandum consisting of 10 points. Under the deal, Russian and Syrian forces are to facilitate the withdrawal of the Kurdish troops and their weapons from the 30 kilometers safe zone,  after which Russia and Turkey will jointly patrol a 10 kilometers deep area west and east of the border.
