Turkish authorities postponed the start of the tourist season due to coronavirus

12 March 2020

In connection with the coronavirus pandemic, which was previously announced by the WHO, Turkey proposed to postpone the start of the tourist season from the traditional March to the end of April.

"We believe that reducing the incoming tourist flow to our country compared to last year is the right decision in the current conditions. Hotels need to open the season not in March but by the end of April. We will announce measures to support the tourist industry within a week due to the inevitable losses related to restrictions on tourism activities due to additional measures", said Mehmet Ersoy, the country's Minister of Culture and Tourism, on Wednesday.

The day before the first case of coronavirus was recorded in Turkey.

In the world, the new coronavirus infected more than 100 thousand people, most recovered,  about 4 thousand died.
