Turkish Foreign Minister: dialogue between Russia and Turkey contributes to the stability of the entire region

06 August 2019

Cooperation between Russia and Turkey contributes to the stability of the entire region, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu spoke to the 11th Ambassadors Conference in Ankara.

According to him, the dialogue between Russia and Turkey is not based on Turkey's policy towards third countries but on the principle of transparency.

For example, Cavusoglu reminded of Ankara's position on Georgia, Ukraine and Crimean Tatars. However, this, as the Minister stressed, does not prevent to continue negotiations with Russia on issues of mutual interest.

The head of the Turkish Foreign Ministry spoke about relations with the USA. According to Cavusoglu, tensions between Ankara and Washington should be resolved through dialogue.

The main "problematic" issues in the relations between the two countries, according to the Minister, are the U.S. support for Kurdish groups in Syria and the extradition of Fethullah Gulen, who, according to the Turkish authorities, masterminded the failed putsch on July 15, 2016.
