On Friday, Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu accused the United States of ruling Europe and urged them to refrain from trying to stir up the republic.

"Every American ambassador wonders how they can harm Turkey. It has been one of Turkey's greatest misfortunes for years. They gather other ambassadors and try to give them advice. They do the same thing in Europe, the American embassy runs Europe," said the head of the republic's interior ministry. - "They thought about how they could project this on Turkey, but one person spoiled their game, and that's [President] Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Here I am telling the American ambassador that I know which journalists he gave assignments to. Keep your dirty hands off of Turkey. I know exactly what steps you took and how you want to stir Turkey up."

On Friday, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu accused several Western countries, that had closed down their consulates in the republic for security reasons of failing to comply with their allied obligations.

Before that, the Turkish MFA summoned ambassadors from several countries, including those who had temporarily suspended their consulates general (Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the US). The ministry stressed that the safety of all diplomatic facilities in Turkey is ensured by international agreements. They also drew the ambassadors' attention to the need to cooperate in the fight against terrorism. The ministry also pointed out that the Western countries' approach serves the interests of terrorist organizations.

The ambassadors were summoned following Soylu's statement that a number of Western countries had launched a "psychological war" against his country by closing diplomatic missions under the pretext of a terrorist threat, without providing any evidence.
