A Russian-made vaccine, EpiVacCorona, has undergone the registration procedure in Turkmenistan, the Turkmen news website Orient reported Friday, citing the country's government.

"The second Russian-made vaccine, EpiVacCorona, developed by the Vector State Scientific Center of Virology and Biotechnology, has already passed the registration procedure in Turkmenistan," the report said.

The site notes that the corresponding certificate was issued by the Center for Registration of Medicines and State Control under the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan and was preceded by an expert analysis of the Center's pharmacological and pharmacopoeial committees.

As reported by Orient with reference to the government of Turkmenistan, once the registration certificate for the vaccine is issued, the purchase and use of the drug in the country to prevent viral infection is permitted.

"EpiVacCorona" was registered in Russia in October 2020 and passed post-registration clinical trials. Turkmenistan became the first country after the producing country, the Russian Federation, where this vaccine was officially registered," the website emphasizes.

Orient also reports that representatives of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of the Federal Service for Oversight of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare are in Ashgabat at the moment.

Earlier, the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan had registered the Russian Sputnik V vaccine developed at the Gamaleya Research Center.

According to the authorities, no cases of COVID-19 have been registered in Turkmenistan. At the same time, a mask regime and a number of restrictions on transport, trade, catering, services, etc. have been introduced in the country.
