27 November 2023

Two ballistic missiles were launched toward the US Navy ship USS Mason from territory controlled by Yemen's Ansar Allah-aligned Houthi rebels. The US military's Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that the launch occurred after the ship intervened to assist the hijacked tanker Central Park.

"At around 01:41 a.m. on November 27, two ballistic missiles were launched from areas controlled by the Houthi rebels in Yemen toward the USS Mason (DDG 87) and the vessel Central Park," - stated CENTCOM in a statement on its X social media page (formerly Twitter). - "The missiles landed in the Gulf of Aden, approximately ten nautical miles from the ships."

The USS Mason was concluding its response to a distress call from a tanker when two ballistic missiles were launched toward it. Neither ship was injured in the incident.

On November 26, the Associated Press reported an attack on the Central Park vessel of Zodiac Maritime, owned by Israeli businessman Eyal Ofer, in the Gulf of Aden off the coast of Yemen. CENTCOM  later confirmed that the destroyer USS Mason carried out an operation to free the ship. None of the 22 crew members were injured, and the tanker itself sustained no damage during the incident.
