Two terrorists have been killed in a militant attack in Idlib, two Syrian servicemen were killed and another was wounded, Rear Admiral Alexander Karpov, head of the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of the Warring Parties in Syria, told reporters on Thursday.

According to him, in the southern part of the Idlib de-escalation zone, a sabotage group of militants attacked positions of the Syrian government forces near the Ruayha settlement of Idlib province.

"At least two terrorists were killed while repelling the attack. Two Syrian soldiers were also killed and another was wounded. After suffering losses, the militants retreated to the settlement of Zigata," Karpov said.

He stressed that the Center  calls on the commanders of the illegal armed groups to give up armed provocations and to take a peaceful way of settling the situation in the regions under their control.

Earlier, Karpov reported that on the eve of the Syrian presidential elections, the illegal armed groups are planning terrorist attacks and attacks on state institutions in major cities in order to destabilize the situation in the country. The terrorists are being trained at the militants' training camps in the territories beyond the control of the Syrian authorities, including El-Tanf zone, which is controlled by the US Armed Forces. On April 19, the Russian Air Force conducted an airstrike on one of these terrorist training bases near Palmyra. Two hideouts, up to 200 fighters and about 500 kg of ammunition were destroyed.

Elections of the head of state will be held in Syria on May 26. The previous presidential elections in Syria were held in 2014.
