The UAE is ready to continue cooperation with Russia within the framework of clinical trials of the Russian coronavirus vaccine "Sputnik V", Ambassador of the Arab country to Russia Muhammad Ahmad Al-Jaber told RIA Novosti.

In his first interview after taking office in Moscow, Al-Jaber recalled that the Emirates was the first country in the Middle East to conduct clinical trials of a new Russian vaccine.

"And we are happy to make efforts to develop an effective vaccine. We will continue to move in this direction. Clinical trials are conducted by the Abu Dhabi Department of Health under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and Prevention, while the Abu Dhabi Healthcare Services Company (SEHHA) applies all the medical protocols required by international standards. Volunteers are under medical supervision for 90 days after receiving a dose of vaccine," Al-Jaber said.

"Sputnik V is the world's first registered vaccine based on a well researched human adenovirus vector platform. It is one of the 10 vaccines under development in the world on the list of the World Health Organization (WHO), which is closest to the end of phase III clinical trials and the beginning of mass production. Russia has sent a petition to the WHO for accelerated registration and prequalification of the vaccine.

Currently, Sputnik V is conducting clinical trials in Russia on 40 thousand volunteers. Clinical trials are also underway in Belarus, the UAE, India and Brazil.
