The United Arab Emirates (UAE) remembered the feat of Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, who made the first flight into space, by placing his image on the facade of the world's tallest tower - Burj Al Khalifa in Dubai - on the 60th anniversary of Gagarin's flight into space, the Emirates Space Agency said on Twitter.
UAE Minister of State for Advanced Technologies Sara Al-Amiri wrote, "Today we celebrate the 60th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin's historic journey, he was the first man to fly into space."
"His flight inspired the UAE and the entire world, launching ambitious space missions," she added.
A short video was shown on the facade of the tower, telling the audience that Gagarin was the first person on Earth to fly into space. The show ended with the words that "nothing is impossible."
The UAE became the first country in the Arab world to send its astronaut to the International Space Station in 2019. The UAE's first astronaut, Khazzaa Al Mansouri, spent eight days there after training at the Korolyov Space Center near Moscow and returned safely to Earth. On the eve of Cosmonautics Day, the Emirates announced the names of new members of its space team, which included Noora al-Matrushi, the first female spaceflight contender in the history of the country and the Arab world.
