The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has expressed disappointment over the United Nations Security Council's (UNSC) failure to adopt Algeria's draft resolution on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the UAE's permanent mission to the UN said in a statement.
"The UAE is deeply disappointed by the outcome of the UNSC vote on the draft resolution on a humanitarian ceasefire, which was supported by 13 out of 15 members. After more than four months of carnage with no end in sight, this war must end," the statement underscored.
Anwar Gargash, an adviser to the UAE president, wrote in his X (formerly Twitter) account that "the international order, based on clear and precise legal foundations, is once again crumbling in the face of narrow political considerations."
Algeria's submission calls for an immediate ceasefire in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone. It rejects the forced displacement of Palestinian civilians and emphasizes the commitment to a two-state solution to the Palestinian question.
Thirteen of the 15 members of the Security Council, including Russia and China, voted in favor of the draft resolution, while the UK abstained. Only the United States opposed it, preventing the adoption of the document.
