06 December 2023

UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan emphasized the historical nature of the relations between the United Arab Emirates and Russia, noting their ongoing development in recent years. He made these remarks during talks with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, in Abu Dhabi.

"At the outset, I would like to emphasize that the relations between the Russian Federation and the United Arab Emirates have a historical foundation. In recent years, our ties have been dynamically advancing across various domains, aligning with the interests of both nations and their people," he stated.

According to him, the UAE is Russia's largest trading partner in the Middle East. "The Emirates hold the position of Russia's foremost partner in the Middle East region and stand as the largest investor in its economy," the president stated. He mentioned that Emirati investment in the non-oil sector of the Russian economy has surged by 103% over the past year.

The president mentioned that the UAE supports collaboration with Russia on various international platforms, including BRICS, SCO, and GCC. "The Emirates and Russia engage in active collaboration on various international platforms. For instance, we cooperate within the BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, where the Emirates were granted the status of a dialogue partner in May of this year," he stated.

The UAE president also highlighted that the countries engage in discussions on current issues within the framework of the strategic dialogue between the Russian Federation and the GCC, a special international format initiated in 2016.

Mohammed bin Zayed highlighted that the UAE places special emphasis on cooperation with Russia in the energy sector. "Priority areas for the development of our cooperation include spheres such as innovation, energy, infrastructure, and modern technologies," he expressed.

The UAE will persist in enhancing cooperation with Russia, he stated. "I will be pleased to continue efforts in fortifying our relations and broadening areas of collaboration for further growth and development in the upcoming period," Mohammed bin Zayed affirmed.
