Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia's Permanent Representative to international organizations in Vienna, has criticized the West for its refusal to condemn Ukraine for its attacks on the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP). He suggested that this refusal indirectly encourages Kiev to continue shelling the plant. Ulyanov made these remarks following an extraordinary session of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
"The main issue, of course, lies with the Western countries. Regardless of what the Ukrainians do, they are never and under no circumstances ready to say anything negative about the Ukrainian side. This behavior appears to indirectly encourage attacks on the ZNPP, which I also highlighted during my speech at the meeting," Ulyanov emphasized.
Over the past few days, the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) have been attacking the plant almost daily using drones. On April 5, the AFU utalized several drones near the cargo port and nitrogen-oxygen station No. 2 of ZNPP, with no damage to critical infrastructure or disruption of the nuclear plant's systems being recorded. On April 7, Ukrainian forces attacked ZNPP three times with drones, resulting in damage to a truck unloading foodstuffs near the canteen and injuring three people. One of the drones hit the roof of Unit 6. On April 8, a kamikaze drone of the AFU was shot down over the NPP, and its debris fell on the roof of Unit 6. On April 9, the plant's press service reported that the building housing the world's only full-scale reactor hall simulator was attacked.
