UN: 25 million people may lose their jobs due to coronavirus

The coronavirus pandemic will lead to a serious increase in unemployment in the world. Up to 25 million people may lose their jobs, the International Labour Organization (ILO) - a specialized UN Agency dealing with labor relations - reports.


Experts suggest that the crisis in the economy and labor market caused by the pandemic may lead to massive cuts. Under a pessimistic scenario, 24.7 million people will lose their jobs, while under an optimistic scenario, 5.3 million.


"This is no longer just a global health crisis, it is also a serious crisis in the labor market and an economic crisis that has a huge impact on people," said ILO Director-General Guy Ryder.


In the world, according to the latest data, infected more than 200 thousand people are infected with coronavirus in about 160 countries, more than 8 thousand people  died.
