UN: Around 280,000 Displaced in Gaza Since March 18

04 April

Since Israel resumed its military operations in Gaza on March 18, approximately 280,000 people have been displaced, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

In a recent update, OCHA reported that evacuation orders forced thousands to flee once again in search of safety. By April 2, an estimated 280,000 individuals had been uprooted due to the intensifying conflict.

The UN highlighted the dire conditions in overcrowded shelters, which now suffer from infestations of fleas and mites. Efforts to maintain hygiene have been severely hampered by a lack of essential supplies needed to control disease-spreading pests.

"The UN and its humanitarian partners are doing everything possible to respond to overwhelming needs, within the limits of the current situation," the report noted.

Since March 2, the Israeli blockade on humanitarian aid and essential goods entering Gaza has further worsened the humanitarian crisis. OCHA is calling for the immediate reopening of border crossings to allow for the delivery of vital supplies.
