UN: Nearly 470,000 People Have Fled Lebanon Since Start of Israeli Operation

02 November

Since Israel launched its military operation against the Shiite group Hezbollah in late September, at least 469,000 people have fled Lebanon, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Lebanon.

The report highlights that the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and the Syrian Red Crescent have recorded around 25,000 Lebanese refugees arriving in Iraq alone.

The Israeli operation, named "Northern Arrows," commenced on September 23, with intensive airstrikes targeting Hezbollah's military facilities within Lebanese territory. On the night of October 1, the Israeli army announced the start of a ground operation in the southern border regions of Lebanon.
