The UN promised Russia that it would be able to lift restrictions on Russian food export in accordance with the grain deal, First Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Dmitry Polyanskiy told the Izvestiya newspaper.
"The UN promises us that the result will be very soon," the diplomat said. - "We will assess the efficiency of performing the Russian portion of the deal and results of relevant UN efforts when making the decision [on extension of the grain deal]," he said.
Polyanskiy, according to the newspaper, noted that "the UN has time to fulfill its obligations before November 18 - this date has been set as a 'logical deadline' for the current deal."
On November 2, Russia decided to resume its participation in the grain deal after Ukraine, with the mediation of the UN and Turkey, guaranteed in writing that it would not use the security corridor in the Black Sea for military purposes, the Russian defense ministry said. At the same time, Moscow said it reserves the right to withdraw from the agreement if Kiev violates the guarantees it has given.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Thursday that Moscow was satisfied that Ukraine had signed such security guarantees with Ankara's help, but still sees no result on the second part of the package of agreements concerning the removal of obstacles to Russian fertilizer and grain exports.
