UN Secretary-General criticizes the US decision to stop the WHO funding

15 April 2020

The UN Secretary-General António Guterres criticized the US decision to suspend the WHO funding.

“Now is not the time to reduce resources (allocated, - ed.) for the activities of the World Health Organization or any other humanitarian organization that is fighting the virus,” he said in particular.

Guterres noted that the international community must unite to stop the pandemic and eliminate its "devastating consequences."

The US President Donald Trump announced the termination of financing of the World Health Organization the day before, on April 14. He explained this decision by the fact that the WHO allegedly did not provide timely information about the COVID-19.
