UN Secretary-General is concerned about the escalation in the Persian Gulf

16 May 2019

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is seriously concerned about the latest developments in the Persian Gulf, which may upset the delicate balance in the region. The Official Representative of Antonio Guterres, Stephane Dujarric claimed about this in an interview with reporters.

“The Secretary-General is following with growing concern recent incidents and tightening of rhetoric in the Gulf region,” Dujarric mentioned, in particular.

According to Dujarric, Guterres condemns the recent attacks on merchant ships off the coast of the United Arab Emirates, as well as drone attacks on oil facilities in Saudi Arabia, where the Houthis claimed to take the responsibility for it.

The UN also reminded that “attacks on civilian infrastructure are in violation of international humanitarian law”.
