The armed conflict between Israel and the Palestinian movement Hamas has pushed the region to the brink of a precipice, stated Tor Wennesland, the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process.
"I am deeply concerned that we are standing on the brink of a deep and dangerous precipice, one that has the potential to alter the course of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and perhaps even the broader Middle East," he expressed, as reported by the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper.
He emphasized that the present standoff between Israel and Hamas represents "one of the most challenging moments for the Israeli and Palestinian populations in the past 75 years."
