22 April 2019

Participation in the negotiations on Syria in Nur-Sultan, which will be held on April 25th-26th, was confirmed by UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen.

The director of the Asia and Africa Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Aydarbek Tumatov, told reporters about this.

“He confirmed his participation, we are waiting for him,” the mass-media quotes the Diplomat.

It is known that, today the settlement in Syria continues at two platforms - in the so-called Geneva and Astana format.

On January 30th, 2018, the Syrian National Dialogue Congress was held in Sochi, the first since the beginning of the conflict in 2011, an attempt to gather as wide a list of participants as possible on one negotiating platform. At the congress, it was decided to establish a Syrian Constitutional Committee.
