The US is attempting to prevent the Russia-Africa summit, scheduled to be held in July, and is discouraging African countries from taking part in it, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told aif.ru.
"Indeed, the US and its allies are doing everything possible to isolate Russia internationally. For example, they are trying to torpedo the second Russia-Africa summit planned for the end of July in St. Petersburg, to dissuade our African friends from attending it," he said.
The minister also pointed to the decreasing number of countries willing to sacrifice "their vital interests for Washington and its henchmen, pulling chestnuts out of the fire for former colonial powers." "Therefore, attempts to undermine our cooperation with the states of the Global South and East will persist, but their success is far from guaranteed," summed up the head of the diplomatic mission.
The second Russia-Africa summit and economic forum are scheduled for July 26-29 in St. Petersburg. The first event was held October 22-24, 2019 in Sochi under the slogan "For Peace, Security and Development."
