US has expanded the Syria sanctions list

The United States authorities have expanded sanctions on Syria by blacklisting six citizens, including Syrian Army 5th Corps commander Milad Jadid, Syrian Central Bank Governor Hazem Karfoul, Syrian General Intelligence director Hussam Luka, two sisters of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad advisor Yasser Hussein Ibrahim, and 13 Syrian organizations, including the country's tourism ministry. This was reported on Wednesday on the website of the US Treasury Department. In addition, some sanctions were imposed on a Cuban citizen.


Most of the blacklisted organizations, according to the US department, is also associated with the sanctioned "well-known and associated with the regime Syrian businessman" Hodr Taher who "acts as an intermediary for the 4th Division of the Syrian Arab Army. The sanctions were also imposed on the Syrian Ministry of Tourism and a related transportation company.


"In addition to <...> the US Treasury Department's list of individuals and organizations <...> the State Department is listing three more individuals," US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo said in a statement. "We are adding to the list  Commander of the 5th Corps Milad Jadid <...> for his involvement in preventing, violating and preventing the establishment of a ceasefire in Syria," the Secretary of State said. "In addition, we list Nasreen Ibrahim and Rana Ibrahim, the elder sisters of financial advisor of Assad Yasser Ibrahim," he said.


Pompeo also informed that Washington is imposing separate sanctions against Cuban citizen Luis Rodríguez López-Calleja, whom US authorities call "the head of the Cuban conglomerate Grupo de Administracion Empresarial, owned by the military".


Earlier, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said that the US restrictions hinder the political process of the Syrian settlement and contribute to the suffering of the Syrian people.
