US provocations against Russia in Syria will continue, expert says

27 August 2020

Military expert Alexey Leonkov told RIA Novosti that the US was staging provocations in Syria like the accident that occurred on the eve to prevent the establishment of peaceful life in the country, in his opinion, such an incident is "not the last".

Earlier, a representative of the US national security council accused the Russian military of violating the rules of conflict prevention in Syria: according to him, the Russian car crashed into an armored car of the coalition, "which led to injuries to the crew members who were in the car." After that, the chief of the General staff of the Russian armed forces, Valery Gerasimov, discussed the incident between the Russian and American military with his US counterpart, Mark Milli. He explained that the US military tried to block the Russian patrol, which was moving along a pre-agreed route.

"The Americans are brazenly climbing, and then try to make a hype out of it, to tell what insidious Russians are, forgetting to tell them that they were warned about the passage of the column. This incident is neither the first nor the last. The Americans blocked the movement of the Russian military patrol in order to prevent Russia and Syria from establishing order in the territory that was recently teeming with militants. We are trying to bring peace, and they are in our way. We politely push them out in an armored vehicle, clear the road so that the column passes through," the expert said.

According to him, in the current situation, Russian military personnel behaved as they should have in the conditions of blocking the passage of the Russian column. Russian military personnel could not deviate from the route from the point of view of security - before entering the route, it is checked for the presence of explosive devices.

"Explosions of laid ammunition happen. If you change routes on the way, this may lead to a certain situation. In such situations, we ask the Americans not to be on the route, because their presence in Syria is illegal," Leonkov said.
