From the point of view of international law, the US sanctions imposed on the European companies doing business with Russia are illegal.
It was stated in an interview for the publication of OWC the head of the Eastern Committee of the German economy, Michael Harms declared.
According to him, the US sanctions don’t have clear political goals and are associated only with the intention of the United States to defend its economic interests in Europe.
«It is not clear what Russia should do in order to stop being punished», Harms stressed out, in particular.
At the same time, he acknowledged that Europe is virtually powerless before such a policy of the United States, since for the large European companies the American market is extremely important, and if it’s required, they will give up the Russian market.
It is worth to note that in 1952, the East Committee of the German economy was founded as a collective body of the main associations of business associations of Germany and, in fact, it is a mediator between the economic and political sector in Germany and Eastern Europe.
