The US warned Russia about an impending strike on Syria within minutes, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.

"Our military was warned in four or five minutes. Of course, if we talk even about deconfliction, as is customary between Russian and US servicemen, nothing is given by this kind of notice when a strike is already underway," Lavrov said at a press conference after talks with his Afghan counterpart in Moscow.

He reminded that the US is on the territory of Syria illegally, in violation of all norms of international law, including the UN Security Council resolution on the situation in the country.

Earlier the Pentagon announced that the airstrike in Syria had destroyed several infrastructure facilities of the Shia groups supported by Iran. The defense department called this decision response to recent attacks on US and coalition troops in Iraq. According to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, the military launched the strike in Syria based on intelligence information from the Iraqi side and is confident of its accuracy.

According to the Washington Post, several people were killed in the shelling. In turn, the Iraqi authorities claim that there were no casualties.
