Uzbekistan lifts border crossing restrictions with Kazakhstan and Tajikistan

Since March 16, the Uzbek authorities have canceled all restrictions on crossing the state border with Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, which were imposed because of the spread of the coronavirus. This was reported on Wednesday by the press service of the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan.


"On March 16, temporary restrictions on the movement of all individuals through land border crossings on the border with Tajikistan and Kazakhstan are canceled. Measures are taken to resume the work of all border crossing points," the statement said. It is noted that on March 16, after a two-year break regular bus traffic between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan was resumed and negotiations on its resumption with Russia and Kyrgyzstan are held.


According to the press service, the decision to lift restrictions on border crossings and the resumption of bus service was made in connection with a significant improvement in the sanitary and epidemiological situation in Uzbekistan and neighboring countries.


According to the Ministry of Health, several dozens of cases of coronavirus are registered in the republic every day, the total number of those infected is 237,341 people, 234,796 (98%) of whom have recovered.


Since April 1, 2021, in Uzbekistan has started a vaccination campaign against coronavirus. Residents of the country can be vaccinated with Chinese Anhui Zhifei Longcom Biopharmaceutical and CoronaVac, Russian Sputnik V and Sputnik Light, Swedish-British AstraZeneca, American Moderna and American-German Pfizer/BioNTech. During this time, about 75% of the country's adult population planned to be vaccinated has completed the full course of vaccination.
