01 February 2021

A vaccination campaign against the coronavirus began in Kazakhstan on Monday.

The first to receive the vaccine are certain groups of the population - medical workers, police officers, military personnel and other professions at high risk of COVID-19 disease.

At this stage, Kazakhstanis are being vaccinated with the Russian-made Sputnik V vaccine. The first batch of the vaccine was supplied to Kazakhstan the day before.

It is expected that the Sputnik V vaccine produced by Karaganda Pharmaceutical Complex (in central Kazakhstan) will be registered in the country from February 15. According to government plans, up to 2 million doses of Sputnik V vaccine will be produced at the Karaganda enterprise between February and July.

In addition, starting in April it is planned to start vaccinating the population with the domestic vaccine QazCovid-in, which is currently undergoing the final phase of clinical trials.
