Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin held a phone conversation with UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen to emphasize advancing a Syrian-led political process while respecting the country’s territorial integrity. The Russian Foreign Ministry shared details of the discussion in an official statement.
The talks focused on the importance of a political resolution to the Syrian conflict, led and executed by the Syrians themselves with UN support. The process, as highlighted, must adhere to Syria’s sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity, in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
Both sides underscored the significance of coordinated international and regional efforts to achieve these goals, reaffirming the need for collaborative engagement to support the peace process.
