Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin and US Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan discussed the settlement in Syria and Libya, expressing interest in coordinating Moscow and Washington's approaches to this issue.
A message on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry notes that the phone conversation was held at the initiative of the American side.
"The sides exchanged views on a number of topical issues on the UN Security Council agenda. In particular, they discussed efforts to ensure a long-term settlement in Libya and Syria based on respect for the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of these countries," the statement reads.
"Mutual interest has been expressed in coordinating the approaches of Russia and the United States on this issue," the Russian Foreign Ministry added.
